UAE Overtime Law at a Glance
Regular Overtime
Any overtime worked on normal weekdays (Sunday–Thursday for most private sector) must be compensated at 125% of the basic hourly rate under Article 19 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021.
Friday & Holiday OT
Overtime on the weekly rest day (Friday) or a public holiday is compensated at 150% of the basic hourly rate, or the employee is given a substitute rest day plus 100% of their hourly rate.
Key OT Limits
- Maximum 2 hours of overtime per day in normal circumstances.
- Total working hours must not exceed 10 hours per day including overtime.
- Employees may request additional OT in writing; employer consent is required.
- Certain sectors (hospitality, oil & gas) may have specific Ministry approvals for extended hours.
